Personal, Social and Health Education
At Greatham Church of England Primary School we aim to promote healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We encourage all our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community through class & school councils, fundraising events, supporting nominated charities and involvement in community activities. Our pupils are given opportunities in PSHCE, SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) lessons, Go-Givers lessons, Collective Worship and assemblies to develop confidence, self-motivation and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within our diverse society.
We teach PSHCE in a variety of ways: as a discrete subject, through Go-Givers lessons, via Collective Worship and through other subjects such as RE, History, Geography, Literacy, Maths and Science, as well as through outdoor educational visits, community work and activities.
Please use your child’s year group page to find out what they are learning about each half term.
What is Go-Givers?
Go-Givers is a cross-curricular educational programme that supports children’s Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) learning. It is an initiative of the Citizenship Foundation, an independent education and participation charity that encourages and enables young people to engage in democratic society.
The programme focuses on raising standards across the curriculum by stimulating children’s imaginations, developing empathy and providing opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving.
Go- Givers Ethos
Go-Givers is about developing caring and concerned young citizens with the confidence and skills to make a difference to their communities, both locally and globally. Go-Givers helps children understand how societies function and provides opportunities for them to imagine unfamiliar situations and explore attitudes beyond their own. They learn how they can take action in a meaningful way to make the World a better place, as we have witnessed in many schools.
