Our school council is very important to the running of Greatham Church of England Primary School.
We attend school council meetings every Monday after school and have the responsibility of making decisions that are beneficial to the school, community and pupils.
Pupils at Greatham Primary School are encouraged to ask or request what they would like from their school. Different ideas are put forward, on written slips of paper, which are collected in the suggestion box.
If a really good idea is put forward and all of the school council agree we then ask Mrs Dunn if we can arrange for it to happen.
Our latest proposal was granted and we were able to purchase a Wii console and games for the school from our yearly budget. Being able to play games on a huge screen in the hall is fun!
The school council had a very important job recently, when asking different questions to potential new head teachers for the school. We had a very responsible role and were a part of the interviewing process.
When Mrs Dunn got the job we were very pleased because we all voted unanimously for her to become Greatham Primary Schools new Head teacher!
Different members of the school council also get to go to meetings at other schools with Miss Griffiths to meet up with other school councils to talk about what they have been doing for their schools.
In our last meeting we talked about how we could improve the community and thought about questions we would ask when we attend a conference with very important people to address issues such as vandalism, crime and unsociable behaviour.
